The Sarnia Community Dashboard app shows public, local information for Sarnia and Lambton, Ontario: weather and forecasts, Blue Water Bridge wait times, weather and Amber alerts, public health notices, industrial and public safety alerts, local events, and local news headlines. It is built and operated by IThero Solutions (Sarnia, Ontario, Canada). It is an independent community project and is not affiliated with the City of Sarnia or any government agency.
The app does not collect your email, phone number, contacts or location, and it does not use analytics or advertising tools. There are no accounts and no sign in. We only store what is described below: notification choices if you turn them on, and a photo or video only if you choose to send one.
No accounts Notifications opt in No location access No advertising or tracking Built in Canada, follows PIPEDATo show current information, the app downloads it from our servers, the same servers that run sarniacommunitydashboard.com. Like any website, those servers and our hosting providers (Railway and Vercel) may keep standard technical logs, such as the IP address and time of a request, for a limited time to keep the service secure and working. We do not use these logs to identify you or build a profile of you.
Things you set up in the app, such as starred bus routes, saved events, your school bus zone and how the Today screen is arranged, are stored only on your phone. They are never sent to us, and deleting the app deletes them.
Notifications are off until you turn them on. If you switch them on, the app sends our server a push token (a random code from Apple that lets us deliver a notification to this copy of the app, and nothing else) together with what you chose to follow: which alert types, your school bus zone, your starred bus routes, and your Blue Water Bridge direction and wait limit. That is all we store. It is not linked to your name, email, phone number or Apple ID, it is used only to send the notifications you picked, and it is never sold or used for advertising. Turning notifications off in the app deletes it from our server, and a token that Apple reports as no longer valid is deleted automatically.
Sharing a photo or video is optional. If you choose Share a photo or video in the Live tab, the app sends us the one photo or video you pick, plus the caption, place and name you type (all optional). We store it with the time it was sent. Nothing is shown to anyone until we review and approve it; approved posts appear in the app and on sarniacommunitydashboard.com. The app only reads the photo or video you choose, never the rest of your library, and only uses the camera when you tap Take one now. Anyone can report a post, which removes it from view until we review it again. To have a post you sent removed, email us with roughly when you sent it and what it shows, and we will delete it.
Reminders for saved events are scheduled on your phone itself and are not sent to us.
If you tap Add to calendar, the app opens your phone's own event editor with the event filled in. It asks only for permission to add events. It cannot read your calendar, and nothing about your calendar is sent to us.
The weather radar map is loaded as images from Environment Canada and from terrestris (OpenStreetMap map tiles). Like any web request, those services receive your IP address when the map loads.
Some information in the app comes from other organizations and is shown or linked as is:
All connections between the app and our servers use encrypted HTTPS. Notification settings and shared photos and videos are stored in Supabase (in Canada), which only our server can write to. Our hosting providers may operate servers outside Canada, including in the United States, so technical logs may be subject to the laws of those countries while they are stored there.
This app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.
Under Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), you may ask to access, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you. Unless you shared a photo or video with your name on it, the app does not hold identifying information, but we will help with any reasonable request, including removing anything you sent.
